# Coffee Shop & Cafe Weekly Checklist

Some jobs a Coffee Shop & Cafe shift never has time for, so they get their own weekly slot. These 5 checks are the deep clean and safety layer you run once a week, not every day. Descale the espresso machine on its schedule, check the grinder burrs for wear and clean them, and deep-clean the whole bar area, including under and behind the equipment. Then run the weekly safety pair: a full pest check of the shop, and a calibration of every thermometer. Do them on the same day each week and sign the log.

The checklist · 5 checks

### Deep-clean the equipment

**1\. Descale the espresso machine (remove mineral buildup with a descaling solution) on the set schedule.** Mineral buildup clogs the machine and changes how it heats water.

**2\. Check the grinder burrs (the plates that grind the beans) for wear, and clean them.** Worn or dirty burrs grind unevenly and make poor-tasting coffee.

**3\. Deep-clean the whole bar area, including under and behind equipment.** A deeper clean catches spills and buildup the daily clean misses.

### Weekly safety checks

**4\. Do a full pest check of the whole shop.** A weekly check catches pest activity before it becomes a bigger problem.

**5\. Calibrate every thermometer used in the shop.** An inaccurate thermometer can hide an unsafe temperature.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is on the Coffee Shop & Cafe weekly checklist?**

The jobs that do not fit a daily shift: descaling the espresso machine on schedule, checking and cleaning the grinder burrs, deep-cleaning the whole bar including under and behind equipment, a full pest check of the shop, and calibrating every thermometer.

**How often should you descale a cafe espresso machine?**

On the machine's set schedule, run as a weekly task rather than left until the shot slows. Descaling removes mineral build-up that changes brew temperature and, left too long, damages the boiler.

**Why calibrate cafe thermometers every week?**

A probe that drifts makes every fridge and holding check that week meaningless. Checking each thermometer once a week against a known point catches the drift before it hides a real temperature problem.
